Volunteers at Spence’s Farm are always welcome! Whether you enjoy working with children, leading creative activities, or getting your hands dirty in the garden, there are many ways for you to get involved. There are many benefits for our volunteers, such as positively influencing younger children, learning more about the craft of growing food, and taking a break away from the every day hustle and bustle. The farm consists of a small number of employees, so any time spent volunteering on the farm is greatly appreciated!
Volunteering in the Garden
Spence’s Farm contains both a vegetable and a flower & herb garden. While working in the garden you can help to complete the various garden projects, including transplanting, harvesting, and maintaining the garden. Experience is always welcome but not required. As an educational farm, we enjoy helping any visitors develop their green thumb a bit more. Volunteers are welcome during the weekdays of any season from 9:30am – 6:00pm and some weekends in our busy season.
Leading Creative Activities
Spence’s Farm contains a wood-shop and pottery-making facilities, so volunteers with experience in these areas are more than welcome to lead craft activities with small groups of children. The children really enjoy learning these skills and gain confidence in their artistic abilities. If you enjoy other mediums of art, we also have a closet overflowing with art supplies for creative projects and a fully-stocked kitchen for cooking projects.
We love having volunteers and are currently creating a more formal volunteer system at Spence’s to make volunteering even more simple and rewarding! Send an email to the Garden Manager here to inquire further about volunteer opportunities!
